ACT NOW TO PROTECT NJCIC FUNDING IN THE FY2026 STATE BUDGET!

The NJ Civic Information Consortium (NJCIC) is a first-in-the-nation nonprofit established by the Governor and Legislature in 2018 to support local news and civic information in NJ. The Consortium’s work has a profound impact on information access and civic engagement, especially in marginalized communities, connecting people and empowering them with information.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

The Governor’s proposed FY2026 budget eliminates $3 million in state funding for the Consortium, a potentially devastating blow to local media and civic information access across the state. Without this vital funding, NJCIC’s work could cease.

TAKE ACTION NOW:

  1. Contact your legislator: Ask them to support $3 million in FY2026 funding for the NJ Civic Info Consortium.

  2. Advocate for the Consortium: Join the Free Press campaign calling on New Jersey leaders to fully fund the Civic Information Consortium in the FY2026 budget.

  3. Sign up for our mailing list: Stay in touch and informed on the Consortium!

  4. Spread the word: Share your support on social media, your newsletter, or your platform, and encourage your audiences to get involved. Use #FundNJCIC on all socials.

NJCIC IMPACT

Since launching in 2021, the Consortium has…

  • Awarded $9M in grants to 56 organizations in 18 of NJ’s 21 counties, with an additional $2.7M still to be awarded in FY25.

  • Supported a statewide portfolio in which 48% of funded projects are BIPOC-led, advancing equity and representation in local media.

  • Developed a pipeline for aspiring media professionals at the high school, community college, and university levels.
